Backup Recovery Objectives
Overview
We provide Backup Recovery Objectives for your Genero Cloud production environment. These objectives are included as Standard Services. For optional or custom objectives contact your sales representative or sales@generocloud.net.
Backup Configurations target servers with Recovery Objectives (ROs): goals we design and test to. There is no guarantee any specific recovery will take this time.
Where we provide a DR test as part of the service, the test must meet these goals to be acceptable.
RTO | Recovery Time Objective | The target time it takes to bring the system online and providing normal service. |
RT | Recovery Time | The actual time, relative to the event, it takes to bring the system online, providing normal service |
RPO | Recovery Point Objective | The target time prior to the event which will be restored. All saved prior to the RPO (relative to the event) will be recovered. |
RP | Recovery Point | The actual time, prior to the event, which is restored. All saved data prior to this time has been recovered. |
Target Recovery Objectives
Target recovery objectives are met when the actual time is better than the target objective. This means
- RT ≤ RTO
- RPO ≤ RP
Our Standard Services Target Recovery Objectives are as follows:
Service | RTO | RPO |
---|---|---|
Database | 4 Hours | 15 Minutes |
Server | 4 Hours | 24 Hours |
Warm DR Database | 30 Minutes | 5 Minutes |
Warm DR Server | 30 Minutes | 24 Hours |
Backup Retention
We retain backups for specified time periods. These differ between Database backups and backups of Server filesystems. Our Standard Services retention peridos are summarized below.
Servers
Microsoft Windows Server
Windows server backups are run nitely, and retained for 14 days. Backups are logically full backups of the server OS drive, but are managed much more efficiently using VSS snapshots.
Databases
Microsoft SQL Server
Full backups run once a week and are retained for 14 days.
Differential backups run nitely and are retained for 14 days. This provides a minimum 14 day retention for full backups.
Logs run every 15 minutes and are retained for 3 days. This provides a minimum of 3 days 15 minute interval point in time recovery.
